Iberian Breeds

150 animals  including PRE - Pura Raza Española, Spanish horses from Italian and Spanish associations and Lusitanian horses - accompanied by the ever-present Minorcan horses.

PRE HORSES - Pura Raza Española
Origins and history: Reared in Europe and South America, Pure Spanish Breed horses originated in Andalusia. Already a favourite with Roman Emperors, they were the horses of Kings and warriors, as witnessed by portraits and statues throughout Europe. Lipizzan horses descended from the Andalusian and over the centuries this breed has contributed to the development of many European and American breeds.
Characteristics:  High and fine head, flexible and large back. The most highly-regarded colour is black, the most common is bay and grey, white is rare. Muscular chest and thick, undulating mane falling over the right shoulder.

Lusitanian Horse
Origins and history: Lusitanian horses are one of the symbols of Portugal and still today exported all over the world. In bull fights and performances of equestrian art alike, these splendid horses are always applauded and admired by audiences.
Features:  The temperament of the Lusitanian makes it ideal for characteristic "haute école" movements, from levade to turns and then to a trot or "capriole" jumps. The Lusitanian passes easily from a gallop to pirouettes, turns and rapid changes of direction, with spectacular stops on the hind legs.

Minorcan Horse
Origins and history: One cannot speak of Minorca without mentioning its horses. In an area of little more than 700 km2 there are more than 1500 examples of the Minorcan breed and this is why Minorca is the island with the highest equine density in Europe. This explains the admiration and affection of the Minorcans for their horses, the brave and undisputed protagonists of celebrations of the Patron Saint.
Features:  Pure black, thick mane and great vitality. Rustic, perfectly adapted to Spanish landscapes of stone, sea and wind. The character of these horses, as well the way they are mounted and ridden during the Patron Saint festivities, has given rise to the Minorcan "doma".
