FIERACAVALLI: TOWARDS GOOD AND DIFFERENT HORSE RIDING

Dear Breeders, Owners, Handlers and Riders,

Fieracavalli has always promoted excellence in the equestrian world, placing animal protection and respect at the heart of every event and continually working to raise awareness of equine welfare among operators and the public.

We believe that good horsemanship is not only possible, but is the result of a journey that combines technique, sensitivity, and respect for the horse. Achieving it means going beyond simply "sitting in the saddle" to build a true connection with the animal.

Let's remember the fundamental pillars for defining and practicing good horsemanship:

  1. Setup and Position

Conscious posture: More important than aesthetic posture, posture is the dynamic adaptation to the horse. Good horsemanship requires years of training and discipline to develop coordination and stability.

  1. Horse Welfare and Management

There can be no “good horsemanship” without a healthy and happy horse.

  1. Communication and Help

The communication between man and horse must be based on lightness and timing.

Measured aids: The hands must be sensitive and the legs must act with precision, avoiding sudden or confused actions.

For the next edition, we are therefore proposing a "widespread" Horse Friendly Arena, once again curated by Umberto Scotti, which you will find in Pavilion 9, Area A, and Pavilion 4. In addition, we have defined a new protocol specifically dedicated to the horses that will be involved in the equestrian exhibitions and shows, aimed at enhancing their work through a philosophy of harmony and non-coercion.

We're confident you'll share our goal of presenting couples that express serenity, relaxation, and gentle communication. For this reason, participation in the fair will be governed by the attached project, which introduces the following key points:

  1. WORK PHILOSOPHY: HARMONY AND SWEETNESS
Proper work requires leadership based on trust and cooperation.
  • Bits that respect the horse's well-beingBits that do not cause pain to the horse. The use of simple snaffle bits is preferred; bitless, collared, and free-riding performances are permitted and appreciated. Punitive bits or excessive leverage are prohibited. Bits must have a minimum diameter of 12 mm for snaffle bits and bits, and 10 mm for bridles used in combination with bits. Punitive bits or excessive leverage are prohibited.
  • Absence of CoercionExercises must be performed without the use of violent artificial aids, heavy whips, or tight nosebands. The "collection" must come from working the hindquarters and never from constricting the neck (rollkur). Spurs must not injure the horse in any way: any blood on the horse's flanks will result in the immediate removal of the pair.
  • DecontractionSessions must include stretching phases (“low and forward”) to promote dorsal and psychophysical relaxation.

  1. RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE RIDER/BREEDER/HANDLER
They are solely responsible for the health, conduct, and safety of their horse. Any violation of welfare principles will result in immediate removal from the event.

    1. ADMISSION AND SELECTION CRITERIA
Participation is subject to prior technical supervision by:
